(TV) royalties

how much money from royalties?  patty griffin, a
singer based here in austin, has had a few of her
songs recorded by the dixie chicks -- sales totaling
probably more than the entire bowie catalogue -- and
she lives reasonably modestly (not extravagantly), and
word is those royalties have not "fixed her for life."
 i don't know numbers, but again, i don't think it can
be much.

maybe it's better phrased in joke form ("what do you
call a musician without a girlfriend?" "homeless.")
