Re: (TV) Tom Thompson mystery solved

Verlaine tried to clear this up in 2002 in his liner notes to the
Collector's Choice release of Tom Verlaine. He wrote: "We rehearsed Last
Night with electric twelve-string guitarist Mark Abel and his friend
drummer Tom Thompson, and got a good version in about an hour...We also
cut a quick version of Grip of Love..."

Tom wanted to make this clear because on this list Mike Carlucci once
said Tom didn't want to credit Billy for playing drums on those tracks
so he changed Billy's name to that of a fictional character, "Tom
Thompson". This insinuation angered Tom, as did other statements Mike
made, including one about Robert Mapplethorpe which Tom cleared up in an
NPR interview. (The one good thing about false accusations against Tom
is that they bring him out of his shell to write clarifying liner notes
and do interviews!)
