I've spoken to Tom about Ayler's Mary Maria. Ayler was very senstive
because he was schizophrenic. He could "hear" things others couldn't. I
think it was determined that he killed himself by jumping off the Staten
Island Ferry because he wanted to spare his friends and relatives more
misery caused by his schizophrenia.
