The American RUBBER SOUL was the first album I ever got, and
it's still a favorite today. Considering that the rest of the
US-only Beatles albums are worthless from a musical perspective
when compared to the UK originals (being shorter,
non-chronological, or filled out with soundtrack cuts like
HELP), the fact that the US RUBBER SOUL remains so good makes it
some kind of freak gem. The only other 60s albums bastardized
for US release where the US version improves on the UK version
is ARE YOU EXPERIENCED, but that takes an easier road there by
just adding hit singles and dropping LP tracks. The US RUBBER
SOUL, on the other hand, drops a handful of tracks (including
hits like "Drive My Car" and "Nowhere Man") and adds the
relatively unknown "I've Just Seen A Face" and "It's Only Love",
and the result is more cohesive than the original UK album.
