Yes! And I had to eat my words. A much tigher, more concise show
than I've seen them do in 2002 or 2003. Verlaine was much more
engaged than usual, right from the beginning. All of the new
songs (and there were 2 that were *completely* new to me this
year, I think) were shorter, more riff-heavy, and tighter - and
had more lyrics than before. They really sounded like *songs*,
and not just riffs and moods like in previous years.

Mix had the guitars way out front, and much more garage-y than
usual. Fred was a bit low, but otherwise I really liked it.

1. The Dream's Dream <-- GREAT opener
2. 1880 or so <-- harder than usual
3. Venus
4. Call Mr. Lee
5. New song (?)
6. See No Evil
7. New song (?)
8. Little Johnny Jewel
9. Prove It
10. New song <-- close relative of the riff in "Sleep All Day",
I think, but the whole thing is at a faster tempo with different
lyrics - I might be confusing it, but I definitely think it's
the same opening, angular riff as "Sleep All Day".
11. Persia <-- Still like 8+ minutes but not nearly as
meandering as in previous years, when (heresy) I thought it was
shapeless and too long. A real improvement.
12. Marquee Moon <-- false start, and then Verlaine said, "I'm
sorry, it's just too f---in' dark to see the chords, can you
bring up the lights a bit?" and they did, to audience laughter.

Encore:
13. Rocket, but instead of seguing into Rhyme they did...
14. Psychotic Reaction <-- very slow, heavy, hard version

Really, a big change over the last two years I think. All of the
new material sounded drastically better, shorter, and
better-arranged.

Unlike previous TV shows I've seen (2001-2003), which were often
~2 hours or more, this was roughly 1 hr. 45 minutes. Less is
more, it seems. I think this might be the best I've seen them
yet. It helped that they had such a good overall breakdown of
material, by which I mean:

- 4 from MARQUEE MOON
- 1 from ADVENTURE
- 3 from TELEVISION (1992)
- 2 "classic" ("LJJ" and I'm counting "Psychotic Reaction")
- 4 "new" songs

I am happily eating my words from yesterday.

Can't wait for tonight!
