(TV) Phonogram/Fontana & Verlaine

Much has been written here [see also Keith's The Wonder] about the 1986
recordings called

The London Sessions aka The Bascombe Sessions aka the 'Lost Album'.

It's been speculated by some that d how possibly Verlaine, himself, may have
not been pleased

That he wasn't given more time/$ to give the album the high quality finish
he wanted it to have.

Question: If Phonogram/Fontana didn't like the 'Bascombe' album and

refused to release it, then why did it release all of these songs' versions

n several 7" and 12" vinyl records (with the sole exception of Anna)?
