my initial reaction was that it was "too vic" -- the
vocals are startling match, for better or worse -- but
the lyrics are so different (more jeff mangum than vic
williams), and the harp / electric piano / harpsichord
combo makes it something else altogether. now when i
listen to it i don't even hear vic. i like the album
a lot.

but you know what? i love "bad" voices. it inspires
me that people who "can't sing" get up and do it
anyway, and make stuff i enjoy hearing. think about
it -- we're talking tom verlaine, bob dylan, patti
smith, vic williams, joey ramone -- these are my
favorite people. i'm inspired by their voices the
same way i'm inspired by punk guitar.

patti once said, "anyone can do what i'm doing.
anyone can get up on stage and sing." i take daily
inspiration from the attitude.

well, surprise, then.
