(TV) nearly completely ot: the roches

i was inspired to check out the roches again by way of
a posted show at dime. owned their second album on
vinyl during the neolithic period.

so i picked up their first two albums, on cd now, and
am just blown away. the debut is brilliant. the
vocals, the writing, the production, the recording
(worthy of rudy van gelder, imo). and it managed to
keep my two teenage kids basically silent and
listening in the car over two days of commuting,
which, uh, has never happened before. considering my
son listens to nirvana, and my daughter to destiny's
child...i mean, really it was amazing.

so i was trying to figure out a way to express this
totally off topic discovery to the enlightened music
consumers on this list...when i noticed that
television's very own fred smith played bass on their
second album (jay dee daugherty on drums). excellent
job, fred! and a second, more tenuous connection --
the first album was produced by robert fripp...who
worked closely with brian eno...who probably did not
actually produce the first tv demos.

y'all go buy these albums.
