(TV) nyc here i come

i am tentatively planning my first trip to nyc for
this summer -- alone, leaving family behind.  thinking
of early june.  can anyone cue me as to whether there
is any better time over the summer (i.e. you know tv
is secretly booked to play somewhere in july, while
tom is refusing to come to texas).  also would like to
hear about clubs (the kind richard hell sang about,
and where does john zorn hang out?).  also record
stores and guitar shops or anything else of interest.
