(TV) OT - Gary Lucas, James River Film Fest



  Off topic, unless you're in the US, mid-south region. Once again the little independent film festival that could brings Gary Lucas back for a live soundtrack event, then a jam session with local avant rockers Hotel X. Saturday March 25th.   but here's the lowdown on Saturday's schedule:
   
  Jason and the Argonauts
with animator/producer Ray Harryhausen
10 am, Byrd Theatre
Admission $8
Special guest Ray Harryhausen will introduce the 1963 fantasy classic of Jasons search for the Golden Fleece. Following the screening and Q&A session Mr. Harryhausen will be in the lobby to sign DVDs and copies of his new book, The Art of Ray Harryhausen.
  The Art of Motion with Ray Harryhausen
2 pm, Byrd Theatre
Admission $8
Animator/producer Ray Harryhausen will conduct a Q&A session while screening a retrospective of excerpts. A look from inside the industry by one of the standard bearers of his craft. Following the program Mr. Harryhausen will be in the lobby to sign DVDs and copies of his new book, The Art of Ray Harryhausen.
  Sounds of the Surreal by Gary Lucas plus Hotel X
9 pm, Canal Club
Admission $12 in advance (Plan 9, The Canal Club); $15 at the door
Ex-Captain Beefheart guitarist Gary Lucas returns to the James River Film Festival with a program of three avant-garde shorts: Rene Clairs Entracte, Fernand Legers Ballet Mecanique and Wladyslaw Starewiczs The Cameramans Revenge. Local ensemble Hotel X will open the show performing live to a silent comedy short and will also perform with Mr. Lucas at the conclusion of his film program.
