Re: (TV) It Arrived!

Well, I bought a copy off ebay, which others have said must have been a
promo copy, but it arrived yesterday and it was shrink wrapped -- so I'm
still not convinced!! I've never seen a shrink wrapped promotional copy.
Anyway ...

Whatever the case, it's a great album ... not masterpiece great, but pretty
damn good.

If anyone's interested, here are a few comments:

The opener "a parade in littleton" is a really lovely instrumental. Vaguely
has that science-fiction, Twilight Zone feel to it. Tasty! I like it a lot.

"the earth is in the sky" is beautiful -- absolute top notch. Hard to make
out all the lyrics but the track is great. Would have fit right on
Flashlight.

"shingaling" -- this one is a LOT of fun! Everyone's gonna love this song.
Really playful and wait'll you hear the guitar! This song is addictive and I
ve played it over and over today.

"all weirded out" -- the same song, obviously, that we heard at Tramps in
96. This version is maybe slightly more subdued, the solos perhaps not quite
as frenetic as '96. But still a great version. The obvious single -- will
there be a single?

"the day on you" -- masterpiece. The highlight of the album, for me. Classic
Verlaine. You just want this song to go on and on. The longest song on the
album at 5 minutes -- but not nearly long enough.

"peace piece" - another instrumental to close the album. Quiet and
meditative. Melancholy. Another winner.

If I have a criticism of the album, it's that the sequencing seems a little
haphazard -- unless there's a logic there that escapes me. Probably so. Also
wouldn't have minded hearing a studio version of "Beethoven Walks", and
maybe even "The Hawk" from the Kristofersson tribute -- both songs would
have fitted right onto this album.

Overall, this album is probably inferior to "Tom Verlaine", "Dreamtime, and
"Flashlight", but it's certainly comparable or superior to any of the other
solo albums.

Excuse my ignorance, are the new Verlaine cd's out and
if so, where can they be ordered from?

Thanks,

Greg
