(TV) Q on Source(s) of Very Old Videos on w w w youtube / Finding QMS? / On-Topic at Last

I understand where the Television videos come from on youtube---even
The old ones such as 1978 "Foxhole" on BBC.

However, regarding much older ones like the 1968[?] Moby Grape video
from
The Mike Douglas Show that was on the List a couple of weeks ago:

Why/how would anyone save this? (VHS technology not available
for consumers in 1960s).

Granted the tv station/network had magnetic tapes (or
kinemeascopes[sp?]) of shows, but for the vast majority of shows, these
were erased and reused to save money (e.g., all but 30 episodes of the
1950s' "The Honeymooners").

Even in the rare instances where 1960's tapes were not erased, how for
example would [not talking about video tapes of Beatles tv appearances
or the Rolling Stones or other major acts of the time--it obviously made
sense for networks to save such footage] a 1960s' video by a rather
obscure group such as Moby Grape, who were certainly obscure to tv
networks/producers, get into the hands of someone in the 21st century
who was an old fan?

All of this leads up to: Are their similar sites to youtube?

Is there a way to find out if a video of a particular 1960s or 1970s
band is on the Internet somewhere?

How would/could I determine if any find a Quicksilver Messenger Service
(QMS) videos exist on Internet?

To make this On-topic:
I am pretty surprised how much Verlaine's guitar playing seems to have
been influenced by lead guitarist, John Cippolina of QMS.

Granted TV's guitar playing and song composition and improvisational
style are an amalgam of a large number of guitarists, jazz saxophonists,
movie soundtracks, and other influences, but I remember Ms Secret X once
when rattling off a partial list of influences mentioning QMS.
