(TV) Quite a coincidence

I've been listening (belatedly) to Snow Borne Sorrow by Nine Horses. David
Sylvian didn't release it under his own name because it's very much a
collaboration with his brother Steve Jansen and German musician Burnt
Friedman. There are smaller contributions from, among others, Stina Nordenstam
and Sylvian's old friend Ryuichi Sakamoto (genius of keyboards, counterpoint
and orchestration).

One of the best songs on the album is called "The Day The Earth Stole Heaven".
Now wouldn't that remind you of "The Earth Is In The Sky"? The reverse imagery
is appropriate -- Verlaine's song is positive and joyful, whereas Sylvian is
on a downer, lyrically anyway. (For a joyful Sylvian, check out his 1999 album
Dead Bees On A Cake.)

The best of Snow Borne Sorrow -- Darkest Birds, A History Of Holes, Snow Borne
Sorrow, Serotonin and the abovementioned song -- are just about the finest
things I've heard since the best of Songs & Other Things. Sylvian's singing is
more accomplished than ever before, and the musicianship, arrangements and
production are as you would expect -- superb.
