(TV) FYI ...a great new album by CRACK CITY ROCKERS

Some of you long time Marquee Mooners may remember a guy that used to post
regularly on the list a few years back, Eric Gregory. I just picked up the
new album by his band, Crack City Rockers and its really good. Great lyrics
and guitar work. Erics vocals are very reminiscent of Peter Perrett of the
Only Ones and of Richard Hell.
You can listen to all tracks at : http://www.paisleypop.com/
I think this is one that fans of Television would dig.

CRACK CITY ROCKERS The Good Life
These trashy, glammy, garage rockers were formed in 1999 by Eric Gregory on
lead vocals/rhythm guitar and drummer Curt Schulz. They immersed themselves
in the Only Ones (you can definitely hear them in their music), old Alex
Chilton covers, and a nostalgia for an 80s that almost was. The two
original members are still here along with new members Ken Coleman (lead
guitars and vocals) and Matt Sherman (bass guitar). Their newie finds the
band stronger than ever with lead guitarist Coleman's playing recalling that
of Lenny Kaye, Robert Quine, and Tom Verlaine. The tight rhythm section
brings to mind the Rick Buckler and Bruce Foxton of the Jam. "Just a shade
too old and a bit too well-educated for pop-punk, they meld their
purposefully snarky lyrics with jagged, high-impact power-pop!" "Raw,
bluesy chronicles of sex and the city, driven almost as much by a decadent
restlessness as by the cool meandering of Lou Reed's rock 'n' roll poetry" -
Portland Tribune "They hammer out a sound that owes much to '70s NYC bands
like Television and the New York Dolls, Gregory's voice swoops through tales
of drug-addled outsiders and love amid urban decay. Sounding like a younger,
more tuneful Lou Reed, he also shares Reed's penchant for consciously
literate lyrics!" - Willamette Week "Dirty and shadowy music that bustles
with ghosts, sexuality, anger, and alluring, unholy fun. Gregory has the
very same nervous confidence as Lou Reed, one that growls one refrain and
then rolls over the next, a junkyard dog wanting its belly scratched. But
that's where they depart from their self-avowed idol, with bop and energy,
like the first super-charged taste of heroin!" - Portland Mercury Will
immediately appeal to fans of Lou Reed and The Only Ones!
