Verlaine's post-Television solo career has been a series of turgid,
impenetrable outings that only rock critics could love to prove that they
"get it" ("it" being supposedly avant-garde music). Lloyd, on the other
hand, has excelled in solo arena.

Erm... anyone?

There's an irony here. Most of Verlaine's solo albums don't stray too far from the sound of Television. I wouldn't say he repeat himself, but he has his own sound and sticks to it pretty much, so if you played Television, then played a mix tape made from his solo album, there isn't a lot that would make you say "What the hell is that," the way it would if played several tracks from Plastic Ono Band to a Beatles fan, or several tracks from Queen of Siam to a Teenage Jesus and the Jerks fan. (Yoni Time being a possible exception)

On the other hand, following Television with "Alchemy" might cause a moment's confusion.

Conclusion: If he finds Verlaine's solo albums turgid and impenetrable, he probably doesn't like Television that much, and is just saying he does to prove that he "gets it." --------------
