Agreed. Listen to the live disc of "Miller's Tale", or last year's KCRW
session. Or "Dream Time", which is when Rip(p) showed up, right? I love
that record, probably almost as much as MM (maybe more, just because it's
rarer to hear it, and it's insanely out of print right now).

I also have to appreciate how muuch Rip *likes* to work with Tom. Look at
Jimmy's credits... he doesn't *need* to play with Verlaine. He wants to,
he's been doing it for decades, and he's good at it.

"Tom Verlaine Band"... it's an idea, I guess (although it makes me
specifically think of Verlaine/Fred/Rip/Jay Dee as a lineup). But that
could just as well be the name of whatever pickup band Tom snags while on a
month-long tour of the UK. The Tom/Billy/Fred lineup begs some other
identification than just "band", and Rip is there to be an integral guitar
foil (as in, it's not supposed to be just Tom on guitar, or just Tom with a
faceless rhythm player-- it's a twin-guitar situation). Television is as
good a name as any... I mean, it could be "Television II", but why bother,
when every article (or conversation) about the "new" Television is going to
focus on Richard's absence anyway.

I just can't wait for the shows. I assume the name will bring in more fans,
and I'm pretty damned sure they'll be impressed (based on the last Verlaine
solo tour). Hell, have them co-headline with Rocket From The Tombs, so
we'll get Richard, too.
