(TV) Jazzmaster

>From this week's The New Yorker magazine:

"Fifty years ago, Fender first introduced the Jazzmaster electric guitar. A successor
to the wildly successful Stratocaster and Telecaster models, this new guitar was
intended to be a high-end instrument for jazz players. They scorned it, but it was
embraced by surf-rockers. The relatively mellow instrument fell out of favor in the
seventies as rock musicians looking to fill arenas went for guitars capable of
greater sustain. Thanks to its low price and easy availability on the used market,
the Jazzmaster became popular with New Wave artists; Tom Verlaine and Elvis Costello
gave it fresh cachet. Verlaine, Nels Cline, Thurston Moore, Lee Ranaldo, J Mascis,
and other fans of the solid-body instrument show what they can do with it at an
anniversary concert on Sept. 12."
