(TV) sxsw / recommendation

i think i've recovered from my sxsw overload enough to post. and i hope i can get an amen from rovner on this -- wild flag.

the band is carrie brownstein and janet weiss from sleater-kinney, mary timony from helium, and rebecca cole from the minders. and they were just the very best thing of the week.

the best example i've found at dime is this show:

and there is a great video here (from philadelphia).

to (very tangentially) tie this to TV: the guitar interplay between carrie and mary, who share leads, is pretty amazing. definitely a strong two-guitar band. and -- you'll hear this on the mellow johnny's show -- mary timony sings a lot like richard hell. i'm serious. you'll agree if you listen.

i think their tour is over, but they should be on the road again once the record is out. you're missing something sweet if you miss 'em.

another highlight -- le butcherettes, from mexico city. their first album is also pending; i can say they were great live. i think they'll be touring with the deftones this summer. i'm tempted to buy tickets just to catch them as the opening act.

tune-yards was great, as ever. low-lights: dum dum girls...and yoko ono was one weird scene, not in a good way.
