ivan julian has a new CD out (his first solo release, i think), which is
actually pretty decent -- "the naked flame."  mostly his originals, but he
does a great re-working of the old nuns' tune "the beat."  i saw him during
SXSW -- terribly small crowd in a parking lot behind some random building...
 
also -- ivan produced the new hunx and his punx cd, which is a fun listen. 
yes, i finally found a new band i like -- and they sound like the
shangri-las.  i saw them live last night, with companion band shannon and the
clams (shannon plays bass for hunx), and it was a really fun show.  i actually
like shannon and the clams better -- they have two releases, i got the
latest.  both great retro fun.  girl-group stuff, updated and very trashy
(hunx has the distinction of being a gay male singer backed by an all-female
band).
 
and welcome to deb -- you're in a small crowd as a female list-member here. 
but the guys are so nice!
