That's a good collection of quotes.

In some of them he's specifically talking about the "pop song" as a form,
which far and away most recorded Verlaine compositions are, structurally and
sonically (although on the latter count the definition probably varied from
year to year).  The truth is that most songs by the "actual" punk bands of
the era fit that general definition, too (none more so than The Ramones) but
Tom was just being a little more honest about it.
