I much prefer the fadeout version for the very reasons you gave.

I'm trying to remember, but haven't checked my collection or the Wonder
Discography:  Keith or Philip (or someone else) might know: doesn't there
exist a cd-version of the fadeout version of MM? (Vinyl transfers don't
count.)
