While that would certainly explain a post or two written under the
influence, I think the overall picture (inasmuch as the seemingly surreal
stuff he talks about seems to be his consistent worldview) is more
indicative of the conditions others have cited above.  The one lengthy
article I recall detailing the derailing of the Lloyd/Ficca/Smith tour in
support of the Hendrix covers record seemed to use the term "bipolar" as if
it were a somewhat definitive diagnosis.  I agree that such terms are less
than precise, but it may give us at least a starting point toward
understanding where Richard is often coming from.

I wish him the best.  I've lost my patience with Richard's behavior in the
past, but I think this is the first time I've ever contemplated a world
without him... that would be a tragedy.  I hope he has people in place who
can truly help.
