I thought that song was called Mercenaries. At least that's how I
remember him introducing it at a show at Barnard back around 1980.

Mmmmm I know the song you are talking about but I thought it was
called Ready for War, but its been a longtime. Deerfrance sings solo
on Only Time Will Tell.
I have Cale's live Sabotage. I'll have to listen for Deerfrance. If
I remember there 's a song (called 'Moscow'?)in which call describes
an intercontinental ballistic missile with a nuclear warhead as it
gets closer and closer to Moscow.

Deerfrance sings on Red Leaves and also toured with John Cale and was
captured on the Sabotage record, which is a live record recorded at
CBGB's I
think. I believe she had a cold when they recorded it and its not the
best representation of her voice. Plus she writes GREAT songs, or at
least I think they are great. She has an album with her band, Extra
Virgin Mary which is what we are called, but I'm not on the album,
Blessed. She really needs a good studio and producer to get a really
good recording. She is a very talented woman and someone I know my
entire
life.
