RE: (TV) Phew!/recordings

The are two main problems as I see it to free music.

It's all I listen to, the live shows I've taped and what I get of Dime. But
that's not a problem. A 12 hour session of different live versions of
Sister Ray is a good thing.

1.	it devalues the worth of music. Gone are the days when with a
limited budget, I agonized over which record I would choose. And that
record, and its music, had tangible value. For "kids these days" (tm),
music is just sonic wallpaper. The shuttle feature on digital devices did
more to destroy music than anything else.

2.	it takes a toll on musicians and their families, who must be out on
the road a lot more to pay the bills.

The only good thing I can see is that it levels the field for creative
DIY'ers, who can manipulate current technology to build an audience and
career, without being dependent on the whims of record executives.

I agree w/ this in re: to recordings and I wish Tom also saw it that way. If
Tom had had his way I guess there would have been no recordings of most of
the shows. It's so much better to share them w/ the fans esp cuz to me most
of the songs are best played live (the extended versions).
