For two radical, fabulous, and influential records released in under a 
year, the obvious candidate would be The Beatles with Revolver and 
Pepper.  Not my favorite period by them, but it does fit all the criteria.

For Your Pleasure has grown on me, but when I first heard the album 
-long after the fact, but still decades ago- it was a letdown after the 
first album. I like it now, but that first album is one of my all-time 
favorites.
