Re: (TV) got my Just Desserts today!

I am really enjoying this set. I think the whole first album and the I COULD RULE THE WORLD EP are terrific. Some great tracks not on the (otherwise very good) 1990 best-of: "Quit" (my favorite right now - great riff, great call-n-response), "Redland", "Pussy Strut". Not crazy about the live "I Could Rule the World" - what works for Tin Huey is not necessarily right for the persona/style of the Waitresses and Patty Donahue. But good to finally have on CD.

Second album is interesting. Lots of great material, but more experimental, more overwrought, less favorable to Donahue's voice -- she often sounds buried in the mix and much flatter, personality-wise. Also, I wonder if the band might have lasted longer if they had issued a more obvious single from the 2nd LP -- "Make the Weather" is great (love the Verlaine-tribute solo in it) but the hook is weak, esp. compared to "I Know What Boys Like".

Anyway -- this was worth every penny. A long overdue compilation.
