Re: (TV) Austin show



My friends review of Athens:

The show was great.  As great as they are, they're even better live.  You don't realize how good Ficca really is. 

I thought the great majority of songs were top-shelf.  Ripp  was even able to handle 1880 or So, tho he lacked the chops for See No Evil (in fairness, Lloyd wouldn't have had them either).  The only weak spots were the new middle-eastern sounding thing, which needed a lot of work -( definitely not ready for prime time) and Psychotic Reaction.  An extremely pedestrian, uninteresting version.  To make matters worse, they've honed that to complete blandness over many years.

But that was the exception.  Live, you just really realize how special they are.  Not just great guitar playing, but unique, guitar lyricism.
