Re: (TV) A newbie listens to MM

Well, actually, a lot of the kids I know are really into "weird". My
daughters go to a sort of arty middle/high school full of proud nerds,
though, so that skews things. The difference that I see has more to do
with how they absorb music and culture. It seems more fragmented. I don't
mean that their attention spans are shorter; that's sort of the cliche
answer and I don't see it as really accurate. They just seem to put the
tapestry of the art and entertainment that they absorb together in a
different way, and the way music fits into it is something other than
sitting down and listen to a 45-minute singular work, like we all grew up
doing.

With the younger kids, their concept of what "rock music" even means is
really perplexing. Some of them grow up a bit and work it out, but for the
ones that just continue taking received wisdom at face value, well...
they're going to nurse some really odd perceptions into adulthood and be
really difficult to talk to about this stuff. I could go on and on about
it, but I won't
