I just got back from a screening of the new Matthew McConaughey movie “Gold” — opening Friday at a theater near you (maybe) — which is set in 1988 and has a bunch of New Order and Joy Division on the soundtrack, plus a new Iggy Pop song written for the film. Lo and behold, in a montage sequence toward the end, “1880 Or So” pops up, despite having been written in 1992. Sounds like the album version and is chopped up to fit the needs of the scene, but still a nice little shock to hear. Film’s OK, too.
