Rush does not equal Styx, or Journey, orForeigner or any of those bullshit bands. They are as enduring and endearingas Zeppelin, Yes, King Crimson, and yes even Television.
Of course, you realize that someone could easily think the enduring and endearing bands are the ones you called bullshit, and vice versa.
Personally, Television is the only one of any of those bands who has a significant place in my record collection. (I also own In The Court Of the Crimson King, but hardly ever listen to it.), but I have to admit that even 20 years (or more) after any of those bands stopped being a viable current entitity, your bullshit bands are probably a bigger part of popular culture than any of the enduring bands except Zepplin.
I don't know how relevant this is, but once, when I was walking by the CBGB strip mall, I got a bit introspective and reflecting on the fact that I was now old and no longer cool, I realized something. I was never cool, but I was always weird and there was a period when the two things could pass for each other.
