I'm with Ray on this. I've seen so many bands sleeping on people's floors
and having to play gigs for so little money that their petrol is hardly paid
for let alone some food  and a beer. That's ok for a while but at some stage
it gets a bit much and it can get to the stage where you may not be able to
afford to carry on.
One of the reasons I stopped putting on gigs was because so many people kept
expecting the door price to be the same as it was 10/15 years before.My main
reason for putting on gigs(like most other people in Newport) was that we
put on gigs of bands that we wanted to see--bands we liked. It was never a
money making thing.I lost lots of money. I don't regret that because I had
great times and met some brilliant people. But it came to the stage where I
coudn't afford to regularly lose money on the gigs. It's the same for bands.
