Re: (TV) Richard's note

I think the Pearl Jam approach is best - artists tape the shows, and sell them to the die-hard fans. Artists gets the money, fans get the music, and the music is not seen as part of the the "offical" releases so the artist doesn't have to worry about bad reviews, damaging career, etc. I also like the Dead / Allman's approach, which is encouraging taping and trading (but not selling of boots). I think this simply increases a band's fan base, and in the long run the artist ends up all the better economically.

Take a look at the Steve Wynn official homepage. www.stevewynn.net
Under the discography section you can find a tapetraders list from a guy from Holland. Hundreds of tapes. I emailed the guy and he told me that he stayed at Steve's apartment in NY for a week a few years ago and had the chance to copy all his tapes. He also got access to drummer Dennis Duck's tape-collection. And of course audiencetapes from all over the world. Impressing!
