I have to second Joe on this - when CDs were first introduced I figured "Big
deal, another fad." Then the radio station I worked for get in some CD
players, and one day in the studio I (and several others) heard an entire
female chorus we'd never heard before on some Neil Diamond tune. It wasn't
remixed or redone, in fact if you knew it was there, you could sort of hear
it on the 45 (or cart, in this case). I bought my first CD player the next
day; one of the first CDs I bought was Marquee Moon and I was astounded to
hear the amp tubes squealing at the end of "Friction." I take care of the
vinyl I have (and I have a lot of it ) but it all shows signs of 20 - 30+
years of wear and tear; the 10 year old + CDs I have still sound the same as
they did when I bought them.
