Perhaps the difference between bootlegging and trading can be taken from the
alcohol perspective ( always a good angle I find )

A person making and selling illegal liquor is a bootlegger
A person making and sharing amongst his friends illegal liquor is a damn
fine man and a friend of mine ! :-)
