(TV) Mostly OT: What are you listening to?

Hi all,

What is everyone listening to these days? I've had a few things in
heavy rotation the last few weeks.

Swell Maps - JANE FROM OCCUPIED EUROPE. My first SM record, and it's
amazing. Mind-blowing. Love it. Can't get enough.

Beulah - THE COAST IS NEVER CLEAR. Totally missed this band when they
were around (they just broke up) but this record is fantastic -
gorgeous, light, beautifully written.

Mekons - FEAR & WHISKEY. Alt-country, apparently. Not always great,
but enjoyable, with a handful of strong songs.

Blues Project - ANTHOLOGY. I bought this after hearing 15 seconds of
it in a documentary of 60s music on TV, and so far I really enjoy it.
2CD set collects much of their famous live record and its studio
successor PROJECTIONS. Mixture of heavy blues-rock (think Paul
Butterfield, the Bluesbreakers, or even live Doors) mixed with
out-and-out jazz compositions. Quite good.

Bowie - Thanks to SavageJaw.co.uk and an ultra-cheap DVD player
that's too dumb to know I shouldn't be able to watch PAL discs on my
TV, I've seen a slew of Bowie performances spanning 30 years over the
last few weeks, several of which I'd never seen before. Seeing
Bowie's appearance on the Dick Cavett show in '74 was truly
revelatory. This has led to a mini-revival for me, and I've dug out
all of my old Bowie stuff. Also bought the DVD of his latest tour,
which at $13 for 140 minutes is great value (and good watching,
mostly).

Lloyd Cole - RATTLESNAKES. I bought this CD years ago since Lloyd is
often likened vocally to Verlaine, but it only really caught me this
month. Suddenly, I don't want to play anything else. I even broke
down and ordered the 2CD "deluxe" version from the UK, which arrived
yesterday, and includes a whole disc of outtakes, b-sides, BBC
sessions, etc., including 2 versions of "Glory"! In the liner notes,
the band says they chose to cover something from ADVENTURE as it was
more obscure than MARQUEE MOON, and that "Glory" was a regular
addition to their early sets. One band member says he wishes they had
covered "Carried Away", too.

T. Rex - self-titled (1970). Just got this last night - so far, so
good (how can something that contains "Jewel" not be good?) - but I
need to spend more time with it.

Also been playing the GARDEN STATE soundtrack a fair amount these
days. Nice overview of several modern indie bands, and it's regularly
priced at less than $10 - I recommend it.

What else are people listening to?
