I've had the Rick for years and have gone through a lot of gauge
configurations, so I have a comfort zone there.  Chorus I find can be
a bit much, even in small doses with the 12-string.  I've experimented
enough with the compressor that I know it's where I'm want to go with
the tone; I just have to finesse it.  I've just shuffled the lineup of
my band from guitar/guitar to guitar/keys and I'm finding that a
12-string/gritty organ combo sound incredibly sweet to my ears, so I
want to get it right.
