True.

Not necessarily... the band are "critical darlings". If it sounds
like the S/T record or solo TV (supposedly "tame") the reviews would
be lukewarm, but even unenthusiastic rock writers would trip over
themselves to review it just so they can be all cool and say "long
before there was Bloc
Party/Interpol/insert-allegedly-TV-influenced-band-here..." If it has
a few more fireworks, it should fare as well critically as, say, the
Mission of Burman reunion record (universally well reviewed).

Now, critics would/will hate a new solo Verlaine record 'cuz they'll
be all "wah, it's not Television". Causing me to want to whoop them
upside the head with my copy of DREAMTIME, if not for fear of breaking
it and not being able to find a replacement copy.

True. Although if it sells less than the Capitol album, that will
only be because even the indifferent promotional dollars of a big
label are bigger than the big dollars of an indie... certainly not
because there's less interest in the band now than there was 13 years
ago (not that there is or was all THAT much interest in either case).

We shall do NO such thing!!!
