Re: Tweak / Lloyd and MIT / : (TV) I'm the one with lousy English

Wonderful story, Leo!!! Sometimes it's hard to be a fan. Life is unfair. But who knows, the three copies may still be there. Or even better, the rerelease on CD. Why not make a try. As a guitarist :>) I can check the notes on both tunes. (Couldn't resist that smiley. My first ever, I think.)

When Lloyd was touring and promoting "Field
of Fire" in 1985, he played at The Rat in
Boston. Earlier that same day, he appeared
on MIT's radio station (actually it was one
of the best 'independent' stations back then).

Unfortunately, my interest and expectations
were a little high, and they were totally
dashed by two air-head DJs, who kept
laughing uncontrollably, and asking Richard
the most inane questions (I'd be shocked
if they even knew anything about him other
than he was some musician).

So, finally I'm starting to go
nuts--cursing out the DJs. I grabbed my
phone and called the idiots up, saying
something like: "Why don't you let
the guy talk instead of wasting time by
goofing around.

The next thing I know they've handed the
phone to Richard after telling him what
I had just said. He comes on and says,
"Who the Hell are you?" I said, something
like, I'm a big fan of yours, but they won't
let you get a word in edgewise?. He said,
"That's ok, I don't care."
He must have been a good nmood, or thought
he was talking to some nut.

But I think this is funnier, the radio
station was giving away three copies of
"Field of Fire". Richard proposes that
the first three people who call-in and
are able to correctly answer a question
he'll think up right now, will win.

So what does he ask? It's some obscure,
impossible question about what is the
*exact* 'highest' note (key?) that he
played on the song 'Elevation' (actually,
I think it was 'Pleading' from his new
record---but it's a better store if it
was 'Elevation'). Not a soul, called-in.
I don't think any of the musicians on this
List (or even John Mclaughlin or the
President of the Berklee Schoool of Music)
could have gotten it). [Probably get 4
Listers who post with the correct answer
and say it was a relatively easy Q, and
I'm embarrassed myself by not knowing if
it was 'note' or 'key'.]

Many years later when I joined the MM List,
his seemingly impossible and strange
question didn't seem so weird. His question
probably just revealed a lot about who he
was/is and what he thinks about a lot.

Sorry Leo, my English is so lousy that you misunderstood me. What I meant
was
that our emailing styles (yours and mine) are as dissimilar as our heroes
guitar work.

To avoid more trouble and what I still believe is speculation, I've written
to
Richard to check our matter. Can't wait for his answer. If the "lead
swiching"
takes place it would be interesting to know more about on what occasions
etc.
I'd be the first to dive into my cdr collection, I promise. But I'm still
pretty sure the phenomenon must be very, very rare. Let's see...

Tom and Richard has different "abilities" as guitarists. I do not favour any
of them. Period.
