Shergolds -

Quirky design, good build quality, incredible necks, innovative electrics,
but dreadful pickups made by ReAn, an Italian manufacturer of electrical
components, the only pickups they ever made. ReAn pickups, bad as they are,
are now extremely hard to get hold of so command very high prices. Only used
on Haymans and Shergolds as far as I recall.
The reason why people still love Shergolds are the necks - like nothing
else. The necks on my Shergolds feel way better than the neck on any guitar
I've ever had, including my Gibson Les Paul and my old Musicman.
Shergolds were made by Jack Golder who did the woodwork on the Haymans and
the later Burns guitars.
They also made a fabulous short-scale 6 string bass, now highly sought
after.

I've always wondered about the Shergolds... my old songwriting partner
really wanted one.  As I recall they're most famous for being favored by
members of Genesis and Joy Division.  Strange bedfellows!
