Re: Subject: (TV) greg reviews Joanna Newsome

Dear Stephen,

Thank-you for taking an interst in my review of Joanna
Newsome. I will try to answer all of your questions
in a reasonable and civil order.

In answer to your questions, the comparisions to
Verlaine and co. to Newsome going on here is crazy
talk. There are no comparisions. Bad vocals: the
majority of vocalists out in pop land have bad voices,
if they didn't, they would all sound like American
Idol. I think Newsome has a gruesome voice (Newsome
ryhmes with gruesome Ha HA ha me funny and can't spell
rhyme, could look it up on the fine Television cd).
Second, she plays a harp, if she is going to be
compared to someone, compare her to Leona Boyd.

In regards to what I like about Television / Verlaine,
in answer to all your questions, Yes. Plus the
searing guitars, the interplay between the guitars,
the subtle changes Verlaine incorporates and the use
of space between the notes. I certainly do not like
Joanna Newsome.

Drunken implies staggering foolishness abounding,
perhaps I should have worded it as "a decent buzz."
Technically, I am less critical of music when I'm
loaded.

I like U2.

I think you have to be Canadian to like The Hip and,
Stephen, I never knew you were my dad. Could you send
me some money?

Anyways daddy, my opinion on The Cardiacs? They sound
like a merry go round on acid. If you want an honest
response, I hate them and find them to be a bad
version of Jazz Butcher.

And finally, if you are my father, (i.e. the 'son'
reference) could you send some money?

Lovingly,

greg
