I think it refers pretty specifically the intellectual property to which
the rights are very clear cut.  So in this case it would mean that nobody
can take a crack at "the CBGB story" itself for a while, but if the
entities owning the rights to the stories of, say, the Ramones, Blondie,
Television, the Voidoids etc. granted the rights to do a film about "all
the bands who played CBGB in its heyday" tomorrow, nothing much would stand
in the way of such a film.  Other than the stupidity of such an enterprise,
which is, of course, never any kind if obstacle at all.
