Re: (TV) Good guitarists, bad bands

I hear ya, I hear ya. Duane Allman's lyrical slide overdubs certainly add an
extra dimension to the Layla LP. And I love Richard Thompson, and enjoy Cole
Porter and Porgy and Bess (or at least the Miles Davis, Armstrong / Fitzgerald
and Ray Charles versions). And I'm not going to stand up and defend a lot of
Clapton's 70s, 80s and 90s product (though Money & Cigarettes, 24 Nights and
that blues CD have their moments). (I always thought that naming an album
"Backless" is roughly kin to naming it "spineless." Same with the title
"Journeyman." Like, isn't that truth self-evident, E.C.?) But the songcraft,
band dynamics, and vocal passion on Layla still rock my world.
