Granted, there are a few ( okay, more than a few ) in there, but as Mr.
Carlucci has said, don't criticize them unless you've been there yourself.
I think the most potent line in the book is at the end where Richard Lloyd
points out to Legs that they've both "been through the fire and come through
both wonderfully and terribly unscathed" ( or something like that ).
Obviously, this isn't true in Richard's case - he and a few others obviously
learned a thing or two; after all, they're still here. And then there's a
recounting of meeting Debbie Harry after she hit the big time, where she's
giving away coke because the record reps keep giving them drugs just to keep
them happy ( we used to get promotional coke mirrors from labels at radio
stations in those days ). There's a lot more in that book than "just a
bunch of junkies talking shit." You might also want to check out
www.rockinboston.com for the webmaster's own account of his own struggles.
On a completely unrelated note, I was taping some crap off vinyl for a
friend ( okay, it was the Buckingham - Nicks album - I bought it for the
cover ) and since I had ten minute gap I threw "Marquee Moon" in there.
Gave him the tape last week when he stopped by before going on to see the
Moody Blues. Last night I get a call:
"WHAT'S THAT SONG?"
Um, which one?
"The one with the great guitar solos and the guy who can't sing!"
Marquee Moon, by Television.
"Can you tape the rest?"
Well, the albums are still in print and they're pretty cheap these day-
"Do they have them at Borders?"
Oh, yeah, I saw both there this wee-
"BYE!"

Casting bread upon the waters,
Michael
