Re: (TV) Scary Thought....

Yeah I forgot all about Gasoline Alley which runs neck and neck with
Ronnie Lane's "Anymore For Anymore". Though O often wonder, were it not for
Ronnie Lane would Rod "The Pod" Stewart given much thought to using the
mandolin on his records. After Lane's departure from Faces both Rod and
Faces shows and records suffered. I for one will surely miss little Ronnie
lane. I'll never forget in the winter of '92 I had the good
fortune/misfortune of seeing both Ronnie Lane and Rod Stewart just weeks
apart. Ronnie was first and performed in a wheelchair at NYC's "Lone Star"
to approximately 30 people. He was incredible doing heartwrenching versions
of "Debris", "Ooh La La", and "Itchykoo Park" among others. The Pod on the
hand was a joke, still shakin' his tired old arse after all these years, at
least he gave up on the soccerballs.I can honestly say that from the
wheelchair Ronnie Lane blew The Pod's socks off with more emotion in his
short 60 minute set than in Rod's long winded 2 hour meaningless set. Still,
Gasoline Alley & Every Picture Tells A Story still remain two of my all time
favorite LP's. They sure don't make 'em like that anymore. That totally dry
production. Lou Reed tried to capture that sound on his first solo LP but
somehow missed the mark and spark. It's the fun and excitement that always
lacks on other groups records when they try to capture those early Rod LP's.
You can hear the fun they were having making those LP's. Something that
rarely happens anymore. M T c
