Re: (TV) Burning Cds Endangered / Costello

Let's see - fifteen years ago home taping was killing music, now it's
CD-R's. What a load of utter crap. Record companies no longer release
music; they release product, and the way you come up with a successful
product is to make it as much like something else that's been sucessful.
Since there's such a sameness to that product, people have already had
enough and they've stopped buying - how many Creed albums does one need,
anyway? (Answer: none! But I digress..) However, you've never going to get
these experienced, validated marketers to admit they don't know beans about
what they're selling, so they look for a scapegoat - tape in the 80s, CD-Rs
in the 90s. This is not going to hurt the artists (and Costello, of all
people, should know better) - they don't make jack from their records
anyway, per Albini, Love and many others. It will, however, hurt the
product movers, who will then have to let some of these ferrets go. This
will, of course, negatively affect the economy, as the movie and TV
industries will be shedding their share of drones as well. This will create
a huge underclass of people who are for all intents and purposes bereft of
any useful skill besides telling an artist, writer or director to redo their
work but make it hookier/funnier/more like The Matrix. They will swell the
ranks of the unemployed, strain social services to unheard of levels
(they're a picky lot), cause the eventual collapse of our economy and then,
you guessed it, the terrorists will have won.
Hey - maybe they've got a point after all.
