I'm doing some work on my house and have temporarily
let a much younger colleague from work move in to help
with the renovations and provide a little cash.

Why I am I telling you this? Well, he is a Strokes
fanatic esp. their second album, which he plays day
and night; he even went to see them in Lowell, MA
last month (he said they only played for about 35 minutes
and lead singer were really nasty to the audience).

The musical historian :> ) that I am---but don't have quite the
academic credentials that Philip and Bush do--I tried to explain
to him about how the Strokes were a 'little'[!] derivative and
probably were influenced by 2 other NYC Televion and/or the Velvet
Underground (VU)--- not sure this even true because Strokes don't
sound good enough to these ears.

He asked me if he could borrow some of my VU cds. I gave
him the 1st with Nico and the great Double Live (on Polygram
recorded in Dallas Texas in front of an audience of about 30).
When he later returned them, he said, that the first album sounded
like folk!

As 'punishment' for this comment and whenever he plays the
Strokes, I subsequently subject him to the officially sold
by Television live version of "1880 or So" played at about
110 db (or the Rhino "Live at the Waldorf". Feel a little
guilty (I admit that I'm a musical snob).

Half-hearted apologies to any Strokes fans on MM List.

	Leo
