Yeah.
In every interview I have ever read when the interviewer asks Tom about what the nature of his
relationship was in the mid-70ss with Patti Smith, Tom always downplays it. Most of the time
he says 'we were just friends'.
I don't criticize him; he's just protecting his and her privacy. It's not really the
interviewer's business to ask such a personal question, IMHO.

PS: Having said that however, I know from my reading and from a chapter ij Tim Mitchell's book
that they were romantically involved around 1976, but I don't know for how long.
When asked about him being her boyfriend back then, he just
said that they
hung out for a couple of years...but he can't really
remember. That's not
very likely, I would say.
