I tried.  He actually loves the Byrds' version of "You Ain't Going
Nowhere".  For Christmas one year I got him a copy of "Gilded Palace of
Sin", and I don't know if he ever voluntatily listened to it... he looked at
the picture and pointed to Gram and said, "Rex, this guy looks just like
you", and proceeded to try to convince my grandmother that it was a CD by my
new band (having no idea how flattering/ludicrous that was).  Parents are
like kids, though: they won't really pick up on "new" music unless it
catches their ear randomly, no matter how perfect a match you think you've
found for them.

I think he likes "Streets of Baltimore", which I put on a compilation CD for
him, but most likely he couldn't name the artist.
